A Baitong-Mounted Huanghuali Box and Cover and a Huanghuali Brass-Mounted Box
17th Century
Each of rectangular shape, the larger mounted at either end with 'ox-nose' bail handles suspended from square mounting plates falling to a knocking plate of conforming shape, the front with a rectangular lockplate mounted over the beaded lip, the wood of the cover with interesting grain, and the smaller box with corner reinforcements and ruyi-head mounts on the top corners, the cartouche-shaped lockplate mounted flush against the front and continuing over the beaded lip, the interior of the cover and base with matching recessed centers
The larger box: 5¼in. (13.4cm.) high, 14½in. (36.8cm.) wide, 75/8in. (19.4cm.) deep; the smaller box: 26in. (5.3cm.) high, 12¾in. (32.4cm.) wide, 6½in. (16.5cm.) deep (2)
