A Fine Pair Of 25-Bore French Flintlock Holster Pistols

With tapering blued barrels signed in gold on the top flat of the breech and with bands of gold ornament at the rear, silver fore-sights, gold-lined touch-holes, engraved tangs, signed flat bevelled locks each with stepped tail engraved with differing waterfowl, blued pans, steel-springs, top jaws and screws, moulded figured walnut full stocks each carved in relief with a shell behind the barrel tang and a foliate spray behind the ramrod tail-pipe, cast and chased brass mounts finely engraved with rococo designs, solid side-plates with an engraved central martial trophy, the pommels in the form of a bird's head engraved with the number '38', cast and chased silver escutcheons each with a coronet above and a lion's mask beneath, and original iron-capped ramrods, in unusually fine little used condition, with nearly all original finish throughout, apart from slight loss of blue on each muzzle
