The first modelled as a young biscuit seller keeping away her wares from the clutches of her younger brother, the second as two little boys grappling for a bowl of spilling milk held by the elder child seated on a grassy rock, a basket of fruit by his right foot, his hunting box open at the left, a small rabbit peeking out from its bed of straw

Lot Essay

Les Friands and Les Gourmands were first modeled by Etienne-Maurice Falconet in 1759. Conceived as pendants by the then head of the atelier de sculpture, they were based on drawings by Boucher, that of Les Gourmands having been engraved by Jean Daulé.
