Lot Essay

Dr. Hans-Ulrich Beck has kindly confirmed the attribution on the basis of a photograph, and dates it to the mid 1630s. Comparing it to one in the Nationalgalerie, Oslo, H.-U. Beck, Jan van Goyen 1596-1656, III, Doornspijk, 1987, p. 114, no. 797A, noting that the figures are unusually large for Van Goyen.
