Lot Essay

Dr. Martin Royalton-Kisch has kindly suggested this attribution. He identifies it as being by the same hand as twelve drawings by the Master of the Farm Landscapes, W. Adler, Landscapes, in Corpus Rubenianum Ludwig Burchard, Part XVIII, London, 1982, I, nos. 2-13 as Rubens. Dr. Royalton-Kisch identified this artist as Gillis Claesz. d'Hondecoeter on the basis of a comparison between a drawing by him in Berlin (W. Schulz, Die Holländische Landschaftszeichnung 1600-1740, Berlin, 1974, no. 94) and a sheet by the Master of the Farm Landscapes in the British Museum (W. Adler, op. cit., no. 10), M. Royalton-Kisch, The Light of Nature, exhib. cat., London, 1999, p. 60, n. 131.
