9 May 1792: Rayakottai "is one of the highest and strongest hill forts of the Barramah'l". It commanded the southern end of the pass whose northern end was guarded by Hosur and was taken in July 1791 by Major Gowdie, hence the proudly displayed British flag depicted by Daniell.
The other forts of the region visited by the Daniells, "Verapadroog" (11 May), "Jag Deo"(15 May) and "Warrangur", "Sankry Droog" (24 May) were part of the twelve hill forts which had been under the control of Tipu Sultan before he defied the British forces.
