Jiajing (1522-66)
Of wide-shouldered, tapering form, painted with a wide band of cranes amid cloud scrolls, between further bands of lotus scroll and lappets below and cloud collars with lotus flowers above, the short flaring neck with stiff leaves, the base with a four-character auspicious mark reading fugui changchun (wealth and high position, long-lasting spring)

Although this vase is very characteristic of the Jiajing period in its shape, painting style and decorative elements, it is rare to find a piece with such a well-organised dense overall design.
