Jiajing six-character mark and of the period (1522-66)
Subtly moulded with eight lobes, each painted with a coiling vine emanating from rocks through a cloud supporting a medallion variously decorated with auspicious emblems, rim slightly polished

Lot Essay

Gentle lobing and the painting of each lobe with discrete but related motifs, as seen on this jar, became a popular decorative device in the 16th century.
