A manuscript letter by Rear-Admiral John Pasco
written over one side of a single folded black-edged sheet and addressed H.M.Ship "Victory" October 23rd 1846 and reading in full Dear Sir I feel much pleasure in complying with your request, and at the same time to assure you that I had the distinguished honour to make the never to be forgotten signal "England Expects every man will do his duty" I have the honour to remain Dear Sir Yours Truly John Pasco Andw Walker Esq., with two further autographs inside -- 7 x 4½in. (17.7 x 11.5cm.)

Lot Essay

Lieutenant John Pasco (1774-1853) is recorded in the Trafalgar Roll as co-arranging the famous siganl prior to the battle, in which he suffered such severe wounds to his right side that he was pensioned from the service at £250 per annum and received a grant from the Patriotic Fund.
