Autograph letter in French, signed 'Wellington', from London, 31 May 1822, 4½pp with integral blank leaf, 4°, to the Prince de Castel..., recommending two Portuguese officers, Captain Corvo de Camoeirs? and Captain Pinto, who do not wish to serve the present Republican regime and asking him to recommend them to his Majesty as they could be useful in his service. Wellington has all confidence in their valour and loyalty. He goes onto express his great sadness at the death of the Duke de Richelieu whom he liked and admired very much both as a private and public figure (creased on folds, some smudging).
