Lot Essay

Corporal William McFarlane was born in Stirling and enlisted in the 91st Foot in Edinburgh in late 1808. In a subsequent career spanning nearly 20 years with the Colours, he served in the Peninsula and at Waterloo in Captain T.H. Blair's No. 7 Company, and briefly left the Service during the course of 1816. McFarlane was finally discharged in Jamaica as a result of 'ill-health from repeated attacks of fever' in December 1827, his conduct being described as 'Good'.
