M.C. London Gazette 18.7.1918 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When engaged in escorting a formation of bombing machines he attacked four hostile aircraft, bringing down two of them. While fighting these he was attacked by a large hostile formation, which completely surrounded him. Although badly wounded in the foot he succeeded in effecting a safe landing behind our own line'.
