Lot Essay

The present watercolour is a rare example of Hunt's early work, executed when the artist was a mere 16 years old. He was taken to Ireland in 1846 by David Cox, Anthony Trollope and his father and in 1847 exhibited two views of Killarney at the Royal Manchester Institute.
