A Meissen silver-gilt mounted rectangular snuff-box
Circa 1745, contemporary mounts
Painted by B.G. Hauer, the top of the cover, the front and back sides and the base with skirmishes and battle scenes in extensive landscapes within richly gilt scroll, diaper and quatrefoil cartouches, the two end panels with men-of-war engaged in battle in estuaries, the interior of the cover with a cavalry skirmish, the base of the interior richly gilt (some very slight wear to gilding)

Lot Essay

The battle scenes, probably after G.P. Rugendas, are similar to those on the box sold in these rooms on 10th October 1985, lot 177.
