A beaten brass figure of a clown "Tonkinson", circa 1840 in a rosewood frame -- 10¼x7¾in. (26x19.7cm.); and a pewtered copper Eastern dish incised with Persian characters to the centre and date '43 -- 10in. (25.4cm.) diam. (2)

Lot Essay

The brass clown figure was a gift to Coward on the occasion of his seventieth birthday from Irene Worth who starred in Shadows Of Evening, which Coward referred to...as one of the best plays I have ever written.
The dish was presented to Coward whilst on tour in the Middle East entertaining the troops during the Second World War.
