Lot Essay

The distinctive needlework relates to that on a stool supplied by Thomas Chippendale to Harewood House, Yorkshire, in 1777 and invoiced by him as 'stuffd and Covered in your Needlework'. The stool was sold from Harewood in Christie's house sale, 3 October 1988, lot 172.
