With the arms of Horsemonden in the center in iron-red, gilt, green and underglaze blue, repeated four times around the rim between ruyi-head panels of landscape vignettes, all on a field of scrolling peony vine

Lot Essay

Probably made for Daniel Horsemonden, born in 1691 and died in Flatbush, New York in 1778, one of a number of Horsemondens who emigrated to America, including Colonel Warsham Horsemonden, an associate of George Washington's grandfather, John Washington. See D.S. Howard, op. cit., p. 176
