The rectangular seat between scrolled and rounded ends above a reeded apron, on medallion-headed tapering reeded legs with panelled peg feet

Lot Essay

The design for this bench is derived from a pattern published in Charles Heathcote Tatham's Etchings Representing the Best Examples of Ancient Ornamental Architecture Drawn from the Originals in Rome and other Parts of Italy, during the Years 1794, 1795 and 1796 (1799) and reproduced in E.Joy, ed., Pictorial Dictionary of British 19th Century Furniture Design, Woodbridge, Suffolk, 1977, p.255.
