MONTEVERTINE

We are deeply saddened by the recent death of Sergio Manetti, founder of Montevertine. He was a monumental figure not only for wines of Tuscany, but for all Italian wines. Mr. Manetti's son Martino and son-in-law Klaus will be continuing the tradition of Montevertine, but the international reputation and outstanding quality of the wines of Montevertine are a lasting tribute to Mr. Manetti.

The vines are planted on steep hills in the galestro soil at an altitude of 1,395 feet. Mr.Manetti's vision was to treat Sangiovese like one does a single varietal like Cabernet Sauvignon or Nebbiolo - a novel idea in 1977 when the first vintage was produced. Given the soil type, incline, altitude and average temperature, the vines are tremendously stressed for water, driving the roots deep into the mineral sub-soil. The resultant wine is a beautiful expression of the terroir of Radda. Perhaps the most striking facet of the wine is the relationship between the wine's acidity and the territorial aromas - and no mention has been made of the beautiful labels. It is a great pleasure to be able to offer this great wine in such a variety of formats.
