A fine early/mid 19th century brass and ferrous metal model of a single cylinder table engine
with cylinder approximately 1in. bore x 2¾in. stroke, centrally mounted valve chest, separate steamways, studded stuffing box with oil cone for the piston rod lubrication, decorative cross head running in square guides mounted on the cylinder cover, barrelled connecting rods with wedged and cottered big end bearings, the cylinder mounted on a cast table with four corner legs on ball feet and pierced sides, the crankshaft with faceted cranks and centrally mounted eccentric with lift-off rod with quadrants and barrelled link. Further details include gear driven Watt governor, linkage and valve, round rim flywheel with barrelled spokes and belt drive from an electric motor concealed in a wooden plinth, with brass plate engraved 'Table Engine 1845'. Measurements overall -- 23½ x 14¾in. (59.7 x 37.5cm.)
