Of serpentine shape, the upper section with glazed lift-off tray, above acanthus and upended dolphin supports, the segmented parquetry top fitted with a further two shaped lift-off trays, above a shaped frieze centred to front and back with a shell mount, on shaped espagnolette-headed tapering legs joined by a wavy 'X'-shaped stretcher surmounted by a cloud-borne arrow-clutching figure of Cupid, on claw feet, inscribed F. Linke to the edge of one espagnolette

Lot Essay

A rarely seen model in the collaboration between Linke and Messagé, the present tray-top table was listed as number 1,477 in Linke's ledger, and a 'superior' version supplied to the London showroom of Meyer in the 1890s. An almost identical table, signed by both Linke and Messagé, was sold Sotheby's London, 27 September 1991, lot 83 (£35,280). See lots 192 and 193 for notes on Linke and Messagé respectively.
