Arabic manuscript on cream paper, 36ff. mostly tables in red and black for calculatiing dates of the Arabic lunar hijra calendar into the Seleucid era and for converting Coptic dates to hijra dates, preceded by four folios of text written in black naskh, the first date given as 821, modern brown morocco binding

Lot Essay

Apparently, the author of this manuscript was astronomer and time-keeper at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus. He followed the astronomical observations of Ibn al-Shatir who held the same office at the Umayyad mosque until his death in 777/1375.
