Of rectilinear form, stepping out in two stages from the base, the front painted in black, red and yellow ochre on a white ground with a design of ascending palmettes and paired split palmettes. flaking of paint, insect damage to wood

Lot Essay

The painting on this corbel can be compared to a tenth century painted stucco panel excavated at Nishapur in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Grabar, Oleg: The Formation of Islamic Art, New Haven and London, 1973, pl.106).
