A MAMLUK BLUE AND WHITE POTTERY DISH
Probably Damascus, Syria, 15th Century
With rounded cavetto and everted sloping narrow rim on short foot, the pale blue interior painted under the glaze in cobalt-blue with a central interlace roundel formed of palmettes, arabesques and floral motifs, the sides with a chain of oval panels each containing interlaced arabesque motifs, the rim with floral motifs, the exterior with loosely drawn scrolling motifs, slight restoration to rim, areas of iridescence
