AN APULIAN RED-FIGURE MUG
CIRCA 340 B.C.
Decorated with a seated naked bejewelled Eros, with large wings, holding a laden casket and tympanum, and a grape bunch in the other hand, a wave pattern frieze below, laurel wreath with central rosette on the neck, rays beneath the flaring rim, palmette and scrolling tendrils under the single bifurcating handle, details in added white and yellow; and a South Italian red-figure bell-krater, side A: a naked youth seated on his folded himation, holding a leafy branch, looking back towards a draped woman who moves to the right looking back and holding a casket, a plant, rosette and fillets in the field, side B: two youths. A wave pattern frieze below, laurel wreath below the rim, a large palmette under each twin handle, details in added white, with a presentation case, circa 340 B.C.
