A SILVER SCROLL OF ESTHER CASE, WITH HA-MELEKH MEGILLAH
Apparently unmarked, The Balkans, 1880
Case:
The cylindrical case decorated all-over with stylised flowers in lozenge-shaped panels, centred by the plain Tablets of the Law engraved: NEK 5640 [= 1880], the domed ends both decorated with stylised foliage, the twisted gadrooned revolving handle with ribbed baluster finial, the other side with cast foliate and floral finial, the matching thumb-piece with lozenge ornament and pull ring handle

Megillah on vellum, 3 membranes, 13.4cm. high, 162 cm long, 15 columns of 24 lines, text: 10.1 cm. high and 150cm. long, blind horizontal and vertical ruling, Hebrew square script in brown ink, carefully copied to insure that the word ha-Melekh (the King) opens almost every column of the text, perhaps a hidden way of paying homage to G-d, the only King, which is otherwise not mentioned throughout the entire text
