Lot Essay

The Herschel Mounted Volunteers were raised in April 1879 for the Moirosi Campaign and were commanded by Lieutenant R. Austen and latterly by Captain E.J.G. Clough. The unit was issued with just 59 Medals, all of them with the '1879' clasp.
