Lot Essay

Lonsdale's Horse was raised by Commandant R. La T. Lonsdale, late of the 74th Regiment, for service in the Zulu War of 1879 and accompanied the Relief Column sent to Eshowe. The unit was issued with just 93 Medals, 79 of them with the '1879' clasp.
