Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Noel Hill, [K.C.B.], was born in February 1784, the seventh son of Sir John Hill, Bt., the brother of Lord Hill. Having served with distinction in the Peninsular as C.O. of the 1st Portuguese Regiment - which he 'soon brought to a state of efficiency' - Hill was transferred to a Company in the 1st Grenadier Guards and was present at Waterloo as an Assistant Adjutant-General. Created K.C.B. and awarded the Order of the Tower and Sword and Bavarian Order of Maximilian Joseph, he went on to serve in Canada in the late 1820s, in addition to being appointed a half Colonel in the 13th Light Dragoons and given command of the Cavalry Depot. Sir Noel died in January 1832 and was buried with full military honours at Maidstone.
