The sitter for this bronze by Troubetzkoy dated 1906 is Armand Dayot. The latter repaid the compliment the following year with a portrait of Dayot, illustrated in the issue of April 1906.

Lot Essay

The son of an aristocratic Russian diplomat and an American musician, Troubetzkoy (d. 1938) executed portraits and busts of his friends who moved in the same international social circles as himself and his family. Impressionistic and full of nervous vitality, Troubetzkoy's work was likened to his contemporaries in the two-dimensional world, Giovanni Boldini and John Singer Sargent.
