Lot Essay

This assignat with real assignats is extremely rare, if not unique and probably dates from shortly after 1795 the date of most printed assignat fans by which time this paper money was virtually worthless. One of the assignats, of 1792 is signed and stamped and bears the head of the King, another, also 1792, is engraved by A. ? Tardieu after Gatteau and stamped; another, dated 1793, is probably designed by Gatteau and is stamped; another dated 1792 is stamped.
