Lot Essay

The leaf is freely copied from that engraved by D. Chodowiecki in 1787 on the occasion of the accession of William Frederick to the throne of Prussia [Schreiber. No. 289]
The George III leaf was also re-used for a fan-leaf commemorating Frederick, Duke of York, substituting a bust of the Duke of York and the letters DY, [S., E20]
