The art restricted to two worshippers, placed one above the other, both wearing long robes, standing with one hand raised, the remaining space devoted to a ten-line inscription in Babylonian cuneiform reading "Seal of Marduk-lissu, son of Shumma-la-Shamash. I praise the experiencing of the things of a god, namely of Nin-E'anna. After I have experienced and praised the things of a god, namely of Nin-E'anna, I will speak ........"

Lot Essay

This inscription is not known from any other seal. The last two lines cannot be translated save for one word, perhaps because the engraver who copied the inscription was illiterate and lost his concentration towards the end. Nin-E'anna was a popular goddess during the Kassite period, whose hometown was Uruk.
