A VICTORIAN BURR WALNUT, POSSIBLY AMBOYNA, EBONISED AND MARQUETRY WRITING TABLE, ATTRIBUTABLE TO HOLLAND & SONS, LONDON
The top of shaped outline with ebonised edge centred by an oval panel within berried foliate border and trellis flower head inlaid spandrels with cartouches and interlaced borders with delicate foliate trailing inlay and projecting rounded corners containing three drawers in the frieze and dummy drawers to the reverse, inlaid with crossbanded panels with interlaced foliate and ribboned inlay and to the centre between panels with foliate scroll ornament, central oval ebonised cartouches, medallions and applied with foliate brass handles, the shaped ends with panels of foliage between ebonised fluted, rounded angles on fluted tapered legs with turned toupie feet

Lot Essay

With stylistic similarities to the work of Holland & Sons at Osborne House (E.T. Joy 'Holland and Sons and the Furniture at Osborne House', Antiques April 1971, p.580-5, fig.5) and a table in the Victoria and Albert Museum and another at Temple Newsam House, Leeds.
