With hare-head handles and leaf frond finial, enamelled with the arms of MacGregor and motto in Gaelic, centred by small flower-sprays and leaf rim borders, tureen cracked
the stand 14½ in. (37 cm.) wide

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Murray MacGregor, of Macgregor, Co.Perth, Scotland, and was probably ordered by John Murray of the East India Company. See D. S. Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, 1974, p.652. A complete service belonging to Colonel Sir Gregor MacGregor of MacGregor, Bt. was sold in these Rooms, 24 February 1969, lots 115-122
