PULCI, Luca (1431-70). Pistole al Magnifico Lorenzo de Medici. Florence: Piero Pacini, da Pescia, 1513.

4° (198 x 132mm), title woodcut of a scholar in his study, three woodcut printer's devices at end. (Occasional light soiling, faint spotting in a few leaves.) 20th-century polished calf, ruled in gilt, gilt edges.

Pulci wrote these fictional letters in verse to Lorenzo de Medici as an exercise in classical rhetoric; they are modelled on the Eroidi of Ovid. The title woodcut also illustrated three 15th-century editions (cf. Kristeller, Florentine Woodcuts, 342). Gamba 1142; Sander 6011.
