Lot Essay

The attribution of the present sheet was suggested by Dr. Babette Bohn who dates it to circa 1589-92. She compares it to Lodovico's study of a Sleeping Nude in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, B. Bohn, The Chalk Drawings by Ludovico Carracci, Master Drawings, XXII, 1984, no. 4, pl. 11. The possibility of an attribution to Annibale, however, should not be excluded.
