A 'Spanish' Morion
North Italian, late 16th Century
Of one piece and rough from the hammer, with almond-shaped skull rising to a stalk and encircled at the base with lining-rivets (one missing), each with brass rosette-shaped washer, and narrow brim struck with the Barberini mark (plume-holder missing)

The Barberini mark is found on a large group of 'Spanish' morions from the old Papal armoury, now in the Museo Storico Vaticano in the Lateran Palace, Rome
