Lot Essay

The inlay recalls that of the gunstocker Jean Conrad Tornier of Massevaux, who signed an inlaid coffer dated 1630 in the Wallace Collection (inv. no. A 1345), and stocked a flintlock gun dated 1646 in the Royal Armouries, Leeds (inv. no. XII.1549)
