Lot Essay

Mariani was a pupil of Tommaso Minardi and Giovanni Silvagni in Rome. He worked primarily as a fresco painter and was well known for his studies after life. Mariani worked chiefly in Rome, executing many frescoes of religious subjects for Roman churches, including scenes of the martyrdom of Saint Stephen in San Lorenzo fuori le Mura, Rome.
