The ovoid body chased with bands of fluting, on square pedestal base raised on four paw feet headed by honeysuckle and palm leaves, the reeded spout applied with anthemion and terminating in lion mask, the ivory handle carved as an anthemion, chased at the neck with a band of honeysuckle and stylized shells under a rim of everted acanthus leaves, with two bound foliate handles, the part-fluted cover with removable bud-form ventilator finial, the interior fitted with an Earl's armorials, the cover with two crests and coronets, marked on body, cover, pig compartment and pig compartment cover -- 23 in. (58.4 cm.) (gross weight 177 oz.)

Lot Essay

The arms are those of the Lion-Office of Scotland impaling those of Hay, as borne by Thomas Robert, 10th Earl of Kinnoull, Lord Lyon King-of-Arms born in 1785, He succeeded his father in 1804 and in 1824 married Louisa Burton, second daughter of Admiral Sir Charles Rawley, Bt. He died in 1866.
