A HIGHLY UNUSUAL EARLY EBONY BRACKET CLOCK

The corners of the 5½ inch square gilt dial engraved with winged masks, silvered chapter ring with fleur-de-lis half hour marks, pierced and moulded single blued steel hour hand, the movement with circular gilt plates and tapered pillars of rectangular section, the wheelwork not gilt and comprising a five-wheel going train with large standing barrel, the escapement with pendulum fixed to pivoted verge arbor, the motion planted on the backplate and driven by brass pinion on second wheel arbor, the striking train driven by smaller standing barrel, the countwheel on backplate released by star wheel and detent on front plate, within a caddy top case with three brass finials, the movement secured to case by screw through steel pin in seat board, c. 1660-1665--12¼in. (31cm.) high
