A LOUIS XV SILVER ÉCUELLE AND COVER
PARIS, 1740, MAKER'S MARK OF ANTOINE-JEAN DUHAMEL

Of circular form, the two flat handles cast and chased with rocaille, scrolls and waterfalls, the side engraved with accolé coats-of-arms and a motto, the domed double-walled cover with applied guilloche rim enclosing chased bands of foliate scrolls on a matted ground, fishscale and a calyx of swirling lobes and palmettes, with pomegranate finial, engraved with the same arms, marked on base and cover; struck with the charge and discharge of Louis Robin--length over handles 12½in. (31.5cm.)
