A LOUIS XVI SILVER ÉCUELLE, COVER AND STAND
PARIS, 1782, MAKER'S MARK OF ANGE-JACQUES MASSE

Of circular form, the two shaped flat handles pierced and cast with interlaced scrolls, husks and wreaths; the domed cover with ovolo rim, engraved within with a band of panels enclosing husk swags and paterae and traces of an erased coat-of-arms, surmounted by a cast pomegranate finial; the shaped circular stand with conforming decoration, marked on side, both handles, stand, cover and finial; struck with the charge and discharge of Henri Clavel, also struck with later control marks--length over handles 12½in. (31.6cm.)
