Seated , he bending over her, his right hand on her shoulder and clasping her right sleeve with his left hand, a carafe, bread and fruit on the table between them, a jug and a basket of fruit at their feet, a dog peeping out below and bushes behind (crack in her right shoulder, minor restoration to his thigh, her lap and table, some chipping to extremities)--10¾in. Lot Essay

First modelled by Falconet in 1764, inspired by a comic opera of the same title, this group was not a success. In the first year only one was sold and only a total of 17 over the following six years. Its price was 240 livres.
