Château Latour--Vintage 1961
Pauillac, 1er cru classé.
Pristine appearance: neck level, deep color, and clean label
The 1961 Latour is extremely rare in this dramatically oversize for- mat. Given ÿits massive structure and tannic backbone, it will likely not be fully appreciated by anyone until sometime next century. It is difficult to imagine a stronger candidate in this auction for
long-term cellaring, confirmed by the following tasting note from Michael Broadbent: "A huge, packed, fleshy, austere but magnificent
wine, due to its high alcohol and tannins. Almost chewable. I have
tasted more Latour than any other '61, some 30 or so notes, and believe that, like the '28, it will need a full half century to come round." SEE PLATE
