A FINE BURGUNDY-RED OVERLAY SNOWSTORM-GROUND BOTTLE VASE
Qianlong Inscribed Four-Character Mark Within a Square and of the Period
The bulbous body raised on a flared foot and well carved in high relief with a continuous scene of the Three Star Gods accompanied by attendants and with two men in a boat, all in a mountainous landscape of rocks and pine trees below a waterfall cascading from beneath a bridge at the base of the tall cylindrical neck carved with a scene of walled pavilions amidst further trees and mountains, the deep color of the thick burgundy layer contrasting starkly against the thick transparent body suffused with fine white inclusions

Another red-overlay bottle vase dated to the eighteenth century, also carved with a landscape scene, but in lower relief, from the Jingguantang Collection, Part II, was sold in these rooms, March 20, 1997, lot 37.
