EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1700)
The oval shakudo plate is dished from the edge to the seppa-dai and is inlaid in gold flush inlay with a butterfly and fern fronds. The plate also has a later addition of a butterfly executed in Hirata style gold wire cloisonné (kin shippo) with a butterfly and a lady bug on the face and another butterfly on the reverse. There are some scratches on the plate above the kogai hitsu-ana--height 6.2cm., width 5.9cm., thickness 4.5mm.
