The oval shakudo plate is dished from the edge to the seppa-dai area. The plate is decorated in gold flush inlay with a design of a bell insect and autumn grasses: the small circular leaves are inlaid in silver. The reverse is similarly inlaid with a crescent moon and a meandering stream--height 7.2cm., width 6.8cm., thickness 4.75mm.

This style of inlaid tsuba was very popular during the Genroku era (1688-1704). The design was repeated for several generations by Kaga metalworkers.
