EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1750), SIGNED NAGAMINE WITH KAO

Both the fuchi and the kashira have shakudo nanako grounds which are decorated in inlaid gold and soft metals with scenes from the battle of Uji Bridge (1180 and 1184).

Lot Essay

Nagamine the first and second resided in Kyoto in the mid-Edo period. They are both mentioned in the Soken kisho (1781) and it is difficult to distinguish one from the other. Both commonly made this type of decorated fitting with Gempei battle scenes.
